Celebrating National Adoption Day in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Steven and Wanda Rutan of Cedar Rapids welcomed Anthony into their home as foster parents on June 1st, 2006.

Now, nearly two and a half years later.  His adoption is finalized.

"He brings us a lot of joy and he's a very good little boy and hopefully we can give him the love and attention and the home he needs," said Steven Rutan, Anthony's father.

The Rutans are one of three families finalizing adoptions Friday in Linn County thanks in large part to Iowa KidsNet- a collaboration of agencies dedicated to foster care and adoption services.

"Adoption's important because these kids are wonderful children who have had a rough start and they need a great home," said Laura Riley, Iowa KidsNet recruiter

"It's probably one of the most important things for these kids, a sense of belonging and being part of a family." says Rutan.

And for Wanda and Steven Rutan, it's a great thing for them too, that's been well worth the wait.
