CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- Starting UNI football player Johnny Gray was one of three people arrested in Cedar Falls for drug possession. Victor Williams, also a senior and starter for the Panthers football team, was also arrested.

A search warrant was served at 515 West 18th Street in Cedar Falls Friday morning. While searching the house, police found marijuana along with items to use and sell it.

In addition to Gray and Williams, and 23-year-old Sarah Woods was also arrested. Woods and Williams are charged with Possession of Marijuana.

Gray is charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver and Violation of Iowa Drug Tax Stamp, both class D felonies.

Gray and Williams have both been suspended from the Panther football program indefinitely, pending further details from the criminal investigation. Neither player traveled with the team Friday afternoon to Terre Haute, Indiana for Saturday's game against Indiana State.

Both players were key contributors to the team and Gray had become the face of the program and was featured on teh cover of the UNI Football Media Guide in 2007.

Last week Gray and Williams were both honored on Senior Day at the Uni-Dome before the Panthers played their final home game of the season, a 42-0 victory over the Missouri State Bears.

But their impact goes beyond the field. Gray is a very popular player and kids regularly gather after games looking for an autograph.

Even without Gray and Williams, the Panthers are heavily favored to beat Indiana State and clinch a share of the Missouri Valley Conference title.

Despite earlier rumors, Gray and Williams are the only two Panther players being suspended from the football team at this time.

This is the latest in a string of problems for the UNI athletic program. Last month, the school suspended basketball player Lucas O'Rear and track athlete Cory Goos after they pleaded guilty to theft charges. Football players Evan Tecklenburg and Mitch Houk were arrested for drug possession after a crash Sept. 13, in which Tecklenberg was also charged with drunk driving. And that same weekend, 14 UNI baseball, softball and swim team members were cited and suspended for minors in possession of alcohol. Also, two football players, Darrell Lloyd and Adam Roberts were arrested for fighting with police after a party at the Main Event Center in Cedar Falls.

The Panther football team and Head Coach Mark Farley left town for Terre Haute shortly after the arrests and were not available for comment.
