Iowa prosecutors drop charges against Bentley

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) -- Linn County prosecutors have dropped sexual abuse charges against James Bentley.

Bentley is already serving a 100-year sentence on federal child pornography charges and 25 years in prison on Benton County charges for the sexual abuse of Jetseta Gage, the 10-year-old Cedar Rapids girl who was killed by Bentley's brother, Roger Bentley, in March 2005.

Roger Bentley was sentenced to life in prison.

The motion to dismiss the Linn County charges against James Bentley was approved by a judge on Thursday. In the motion, prosecutors say trying Bentley on the second-degree sexual abuse charge would serve no purpose.

Trial in the case was set to start on Monday.
