Parkersburg small businesses receive $60,000


WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Seven small Parkersburg businesses will be receiving aid to help in rebuilding efforts following the tornado that tore through town last May.

The Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa has approved $60,000 in grants as a result of a Grainger Rebuilding American grant made to the Foundation.

A-P Appliance, Dennis Ihde, LTD, Luhring Monuments, Matt's Grill & Bar, Parkersburg Family Dental, P-N-R Car Wash and S&S Foods will be receiving the grants.

A ceremony is being held Friday, Nov. 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the Parkersburg Civic Center to present the grants to the businesses.

The Grainger Rebuilding America program awards grants to small businesses and communities across the nation that all victim to natural disasters. Grainger presented the Community Foundation with a gift of $50,000 which was matched with $10,000 from the Foundation's Tornadoes of 2008 Assistance Fund, which was set up after the storms tore through northeast Iowa in May.

The Foundation administered the funds through an open application process to locally owned, operated and independent small businesses.
