Local option sales tax update

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- The Iowa Department of Revenue have announced updates to local option tax which will take effect January 1.

Local option sales tax will no longer be charged in Palo. Palo's total rate will be the 6 percent state rate only.

Taxable sales in Linn County will be subject to local option tax only in Bertram, Central City, Coggon, and Prairieburg.

All taxable sales in Emmet COunty will be subject to a total rate of 7 percent tax (6 percent state rate and 1 percent local option tax). The location option tax will be effective January 1 in Estherville, Dolliver, Gruver, Wallingford, and the Unincorporated Area (including all unincorporated towns). Armstrong and Ringsted have had the local option tax since 1998.
