West Delaware Falls To Nevada in State Volleyball Tournament

Ann Hoover and Claire Bartelson combined for 25 kills to lead tournament newcomer Nevada to a 25-21, 25-17, 23-25, 20-25, 15-10 victory over West Delaware in Class 3A first round action at the State Volleyball Tournament.

The Cubs showed no state tournament jitters, jumping out to victories in the first two games before West Delaware took won games three and four to force a deciding fifth game. The Cubs held West Delaware to four kills in the deciding game.

Bartelson had 13 kills and 19 digs to pace Nevada while Hoover knocked down 12 kills with a team-high 36 digs. The Cubs recorded 17 blocks in the match with four players recording three or more blocks.

Emily Havertape led West Delaware with 13 kills while Allison Pasker added 12 kills.

Nevada advances to the Class 3A semifinals to face Mount Vernon or Pella Friday at 2:15. West Delaware ends its season at 35-9.
