MONEY MATTERS: Colleges cut back

DECORAH (KWWL) - Even Iowa colleges are cutting back in this economic slump.

Luther College in Decorah has delayed a $10 million campus project, while Coe College in Cedar Rapids froze faculty and staff salaries.

College officials say they need to strengthen enrollment because 80% of private college budgets comes from tuition, with endowment earnings and gifts making up the rest.

At the same time, schools must keep tuition low while maintaining programs for students.
