Recycling centers offer tour on America Recycles Day

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- Saturday marks the 11th anniversary of America Recycles Day, and some local recycling centers want to show the community how recycling works.

The following locations will offer tours to the public on Saturday.

Saturday, Nov. 15 - 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.
Iowa City Landfill & Recycling Center, Salvage Barn
3900 Hebl Avenue
Ever wonder what happens to your trash after it leaves the curb? Join us for a landfill tour and find out! Then, over refreshments, learn about the City's recycling programs and why it's important to keep stuff out of the landfill. Stop in the Salvage Barn to explore historical building materials and get creative in your home.

Saturday, Nov. 15 - 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
City Carton Recycling, 3 E. Benton Street
From the recycling bin, materials are taken to City Carton Recycling for processing. Stop in to check out the "fiber" facility and learn about how cardboard is sorted, baled and shipped to market.

Saturday, Nov. 15 - 11:00 a.m.
Habitat ReStore, 2401 Scott Blvd. SE
Learn about a premier waste reduction effort for construction and demolition waste in Iowa City. Whether you have materials to donate or are looking for a great deal on something for your home, ReStore can help!

If you plan to attend one of the tours, contact the Recycling Coordinator by 4 p.m. on Friday.
