Honoring troops for disaster response

Waterloo (KWWL) - Eastern Iowans are giving thanks this Veterans Day, not only for the men and women serving overseas, but also for their help during this spring's disasters.

More than 4,000 Iowa National Guard troops were deployed to help with flood and tornado damage this year, the largest deployment since the civil war.

After a tornado destoryed Parkersburg, National Guard troops patroled the streets enforcing the curfew, and watched for looters.

Then after the flood damaged the Cedar Rapids water treatment plant, KWWL flew with them in a Chinook helicopter.

The Guard recovered pump moters to get drinking water back to the city.
