Free medical screenings offered to former Ames lab workers

AMES (KWWL)-- The Ames Laboratory at Iowa State University in Ames is inviting all former workers to participate in a free medical surveillance program.

The program is designed to detect possible health conditions related to exposure to harmful substances during their employment.

Laboratory employees may have been exposed to uranium, thorium, beryllium, ionizing radiation and other toxic substances that have been associated with the lab.

The free screening includes a chest x-ray, breathing tests, as well as general blood work.

The program is open to all former Ames Laboratory employees, including contractors and subcontractors, scientific and technical staff, undergraduate and graduate assistants, administrative staff, construction workers, and custodians, regardless of any current health status or length of employment.

For more information about the Ames Laboratory-Former Worker Program and the free medical screening, call the project's toll-free number at 866-282-5818.
