Danielson increases lead ahead of possible recount

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- After a Special Precinct Board meeting on Monday, Jeff Danielson's lead increased to 17 votes over Walt Rogers in the Senate District 10 race.

Danielson now stands at 16,091 votes to Rogers' 16,074. Vote totals changed slightly after the Black Hawk County Special Precinct Board considered more absentee ballots Monday afternoon.

Ten absentee ballots were received in Monday's mail, seven of which were eligible to be counted, because of a postmark of Nov. 3 or earlier. Six were ballots from Senate District 10. Danielson received five votes and Rogers one.

The canvass is typically the final word on elections, but election officials are asking the Board of Supervisors to call an administrative recount for Wednesday for two precincts in Senate District 10 that reported problems with small numbers of ballots.
