University of Iowa to host Healing Mozart

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- The University of Iowa will be hosting a presentation about the relationship between music and healing.

Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine Office of Student Affairs and Curriculum will host "Healing Mozart? The Science of Music in Medicine" by surgeon and concert pianist Claudius Conrad, M.D., Ph.D., on Monday, Nov. 17, at the Old Capitol Museum on the UI Pentacrest.
 
A reception will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the 6:30 p.m. presentation. The event is free and open to the public.
 
Conrad, a third-year resident in surgery at Harvard University, holds a doctorate in music philosophy and has conducted research on the relationship between music and healing. He will discuss the history of music in medicine and the use of music in anesthesia and surgery today, and he will perform selected works on piano.
 
The event is sponsored by Richard Caplan, M.D., MidWestOne Bank, the UI Carver College of Medicine, and West Music.
