Parkersburg retirement community begins rebuilding

PARKERSBURG (KWWL) -- Owners of Parker Place Retirement Community have finalized plans to rebuild the facility.

The retirement community was destroyed, along with much of the Parkersburg community, by the EF-5 tornado in May. Rebuilding plans are already underway with the opening date scheduled for mid 2009.

The retirement community was destroyed before it even opened. Construction on the original facility began in the fall of 2007 and was scheduled to open on Oct. 1. Reconstruction is scheduled to begin the week of Nov. 10.

Those who already paid a deposit or are looking for assisted living accomodations have been temporarily placed at other communities until Parker Place is rebuilt.

An informational meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 4-5 p.m. to discuss Parker Place at the Parkersburg Civic Center.
