Tips for winterizing your vehicle

WATERLOO (KWWL)-- We've experience a lot of cold weather in the last week with temperatures dipping into the teens

Those cold temperatures may mean a cold start to the day for many of us headed to work or school early.

Many car experts say now is the time to winterize your car.

They say basic maintenance now can avoid headaches down the road.

"Check your tune up, check the strength and acidity of your antifreeze, check your tires, and a general look over by your mechanic," said Dana Greer of Greere Motor Frame and Axle.

Greere also recommends making sure your car's spark plugs and electrical wires are in good working condition this time of year.

Triple 'A' also offers tips for winterizing your vehicle.

-Have your brakes checked

-replace worn wiper-blades to increase visibility

-keep that gas tank at least half full at all times to avoid condensation which could lead to a gas line freeze-up

-program your radio to a weather station

-carry a winter emergency kit and a cell phone and car charger
