Iowans to present turkey for Presidential pardon

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- An Ellsworth couple will present a turkey to be pardoned by President Bush ahead of Thanksgiving.

Paul and Mary Hill and their family will present an approximately 45 pound bird to Bush before Thanksgiving. The bird and the family will visit with Iowa press on Nov. 19, before they travel to Washington for the presentation with the President.

Paul Hill has been given the honor because he is the chairman of the National Turkey Federation. He is the sixth Iowan to present a Turkey for pardoning. The last was to George H.W. Bush in 1991.

The White House pardon of a turkey has been a tradition since 1947.
