Author helps Cedar Rapids library recover

CEDAR RAPIDS (AP) -- Garrison Keillor is helping the public library in Cedar Rapids recover from the summer floods.

The author, storyteller and creator and host of the Minnesota Public Radio show "A Prairie Home Companion" has donated an undisclosed sum to the Cedar Rapids Public Library Foundation.

The flooding destroyed about 160,000 books, movies, albums and other items.

Foundation spokeswoman Marie DeVries says the group doesn't reveal what donors give individually, but it has received about $205,000 overall. That includes nearly $45,000 from the government and people of the Czech Republic.
