Mason City considers shooting crows

MASON CITY (AP) - A proposal to shoot crows in downtown Mason City is ruffling some feathers.

Some city leaders are considering a plan to shoot the roosting crows in Central Park, mount the bodies on boards and then hang the boards in trees to scare off other crows. The idea is to get rid of the crow droppings that end up in the grass and on people.

City Administrator Brent Trout says the idea is controversial, but the city has an issue - crows are a nuisance and a pest.

Kitty Clasing is the chairwoman of the Park and Recreation Board. She says the plan is just a temporary fix and the city should try something a little less offensive.
