Cedar Rapids air quality tests released

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - The city of Cedar Rapids hired Family Environmental Compliance Services to monitor air quality and conduct daily tests for asbestos during a recent demolition process.

On October 28th, the city began demolishing flood-damaged houses that sustained extensive structural damage.

The daily air quality tests were taken in three locations on the downwind side of the demolition site.

The samples are analyzed and results are produced the day after the demolition. The Environmental Protection Agency has established a clearance level of .01 fibers per cubic centimeter for safe breathing conditions.  So far, these tests have remained at a safe level:

211 13th Avenue -  .0001, 0.001 & 0

322 14th Avenue SE - 0.002, 0.007 & 0

1221 13th Avenue - 0.010, 0.008 & 0.007

These test results are also posted on www.corridorrecovery.org and on the Linn County Air Quality Division website at http://www.air.linn.ia.us/
