Craigslist agrees to crack down on erotic services section

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- Craigslist, the online classified ad website visited by millions of Americans each month, has agreed with states to crack down on inappropriate content and illegal activity in the Craigslist 'erotic services' section.

According to the Iowa Attorney General's office, the agreement is designed to strengthen efforts against illegal activity such as circulation of child pornography and sexual trafficking of children.

Under the agreement, Craigslist will require people who post erotic services ads to pay a fee with a valid credit card and provide a working phone number. This should significantly reduce the number of erotic services posts for illegal activitiy.

Craigslist reached the agreement with the Attorneys General of a total of 43 states and territories including Iowa. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children also joined in the agreement.
