Iowa soldiers to return

KWWL (Des Moines) - About 130 members of the Iowa National Guard will be welcomed home in a ceremony at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Des Moines.

A community homecoming ceremony is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

The troops are members of the 186th Military Police Company, based at Camp Dodge, which was mobilized a year ago and arrived in Iraq in January.

Lt. Col. Gregory Hapgood, a spokesman for the Iowa Guard, says the unit has been providing security and law enforcement support and performed a variety of missions in Iraq.

The company previously served in Iraq in 2003 and 2004, was deployed in Bosnia in 1995 and 1996, and served in the Persian Gulf region in 1990 and 1991 in support of Operation Desert Storm.
