CEO says Postville plant struggling to survive

POSTVILLE, Iowa (AP) - The chief executive officer of an embattled kosher meatpacking plant in Postville says the plant is struggling to survive.

Agriprocessors Inc. CEO Bernard Feldman says in a copyright story Monday on The Des Moines Register's Web site that the plant won't likely have any substantial production anytime soon.

Feldman says he's talking with investors or companies that may be interested in buying a stake in Agriprocessors.

The plant was the site of 1 of the largest single-site immigration raids in U.S. history in May when nearly 400 illegal immigrants were arrested.

At least four companies have filed lawsuits against Agriprocessors, including a St. Louis-based bank that claims the company defaulted on a $35 million loan. Last week, a senior plant manager was charged with federal immigration crimes.
