UI law students lend hand in cleanup

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Work to clean up flood damage continues in some areas in eastern Iowa's flood zone.

Saturday, about 40 students studying law from the University of Iowa took a break from the books to do a little house cleaning.  They gathered in Cedar Rapids to help clean three houses damaged by the floods of 2008.  Saturday is the fourth day the students have been working on this project.

"I think an essential part of becoming a lawyer is service, and it's always been a big priority of me as a law student," said University of Iowa law student John Brayman.

The law students have already invested 600 hours in helping the Cedar Rapids community.  After completing the work planned for Sunday, that number will be closer to 900 hours.
