Future of workers at Agriprocessors is uncertain

POSTVILLE (KWWL) -- There are 450 temporary workers at Agriprocessors through Jacobson Staffing in Waterloo.

Another large group of workers are supplied through Winforce.

Jacobson suspended its contract with Agriprocessors on Thursday. Now, the company is paying its workers and trying to help them find other employement.

Regional manager Jamie Cord says Jacobson Staffing had suspended relations this week with the Agriprocessors plant and told its 450 workers not to report to their jobs.

KWWL has learned that the group from Winforce is being paid and are still on the job.

Those paid by Agriprocessors were concerned their paychecks wouldn't be available Friday and had to wait until 5:00 p.m. Friday to get them.

Rumors circulated throughout the day on the future of the company after word of millions in fines and lawsuits.

Workers didn't know if their checks would be good until they got to the bank.

The employees received their paychecks and left quickly to cash or deposit them.
