Court upholds murder case against Roger Bentley

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - The Iowa Supreme Court has upheld the murder and kidnapping convictions and consecutive sentences of life in prison without parole for Roger Bentley in the killing of Jetseta Gage.

Bentley was convicted of kidnapping and killing the 10-year-old Cedar Rapids girl in March 2005. Her body was found in a deserted mobile home outside of Iowa City. She had been raped, beaten and suffocated with a plastic bag around her head.

In his appeal, Bentley raised three issues - insufficient evidence to show he kidnapped the child, ineffective counsel and improper reason to impose consecutive sentences.

In Friday's ruling, the Supreme Court affirmed the guilty verdicts and sentences for first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping.
