Warning for Shell Rock River dam

BUTLER COUNTY (KWWL)- Divers inspected the Greene dam on the Shell Rock River after the June floods. The inspection  revealed that the apron of the dam had been undermined.

After a review of the report the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission notified the Butler County Conservation Board that steps must be taken to insure the integrity of the dam and the safety of the public during the repair process.

The Butler County Conservation Board has been ordered to lower the reservoir above the dam to reduce the load on the dam to prevent additional damages.

Public access to the area immediately below the spillway of the dam will be prohibited. No fishing or other recreational use of the area near the dam will be permitted either until the dam is repaired.

Boat owners should immediately remove watercraft from the Shell Rock River from Marble Rock to Greene and from Greene to Camp Comfort.
