CASCADE (KWWL) - In class 2A tonight--some extensive travel involved tonight as Gilbert pays a visit to Cascade.
Gilbert making its third playoff appearance since 2004---while Cascade has not been in the playoffs since 1990--the year some its senior players were born. That's 18 years ago. And 18 years is a long time with out a post season berth. So as you can imagine, adrenaline was high.
And it was a battle between the Cougars and the Tigers. Scoreless in the first quarter. We pick it up in the 2nd. Gilbert's quarterback David Parkinson hands off to Joe Stoker. He dodges 3 tackles before he's taken down at the 5.
A few plays later, deja-vu, this time Stoker takes it for the quick six. It's 7-0 Tigers.
Cougars answer back, Connar Redmond with the pass to Matt McCullough. He's close but referees calls it down at the 1. Very next play, this time Evan Ressler with the dive. It's tied at 7-7.
After a field goal by the Tigers. The Cougars tie it at 10. 4th quarter action, Its 13-10 Cascade, haven't we see this guy already? This time it's Aaron Sporrer with the sweep to Stoker. He's pretty stoked about that one; one of three on the night. Its 16-13
The Tigers would score three more times and despite Cascade's 18 year hiatus Gilbert wins it 30 to 13.
Certainly making the long trip worthwhile for the Tigers.
