Train derails in Dubuque


KWWL (Dubuque) - Traffic came to a hault near downtown Dubuque Wednesday.

A train derailed at 16th and Elm Streets in Dubuque. Police say the train was traveling southbound when a witness heard screeching and saw smoke.

The train slid off the tracks, sending debris on the road. The federal railroad administration and the railmaster are investigating. Clean-up is underway.

"They have their repair crew out now. It could take them up to 4-6 hours to get the majority of thei equipment on scene and when they have that done they'll clear the track off from 16th street up," says Ltd. John Digman, Dubuque Police Department.

The train was carrying corn when it derailed. No one was injured.
