Pain is a leading cause of disability among veterans.
That's according to the American Pain Association.
Nearly half of those returning from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan report pain-related problems.
That's why, this month, Congress passed the "Military Pain Care Act".
The act, introduced in the House of Representatives by Congressman Dave Loebsack, requires the Department of Defense to provide comprehensive pain care for active and retired military personnel.
Congressman Loebsack met with University Hospitals' doctors today to discuss the act.
Loebsack says improved pain care management will help injured servicemembers transition back to their civilian lives.
