Waterloo West, Cedar Falls move on in regional volleyball action

Waterloo, Iowa - The Waterloo West High Wahawks put a difficult regular season behind them and kept their season alive knocking off Mason City 3 - 1 in regional action.

The Wahawks rallied after dropping the first game, winning the next three to secure the match led by a solid defense as well as great front row play by senior Charmin Anderson.  For the West High players, Monday's win helped put a lot of frustration behind them.

"We're all starting to work together," says Anderson, "we're all playing together on one night.  Our back row's doing amazing, and our front row is just taking care of business."

Head coach Dave Hirsch agreed.  "This is a team that should've won more ballgames than they did all year.  I think finally tonight everything came together.  The intensity and the focus stayed there, and they played like I think they should've played all year."

West High moves on to meet #11 Waterloo East High in regional semifinal action Thursday night.  The game will be played at East.

Cedar Falls, Iowa - The Cedar Falls Tigers also needed a rally to survive an upset scare from Cedar Rapids Jefferson.  The J-Hawks took game one from the Tigers 25 - 19 as Cedar Falls failed to get any momentum.  That changed quickly as C.F. quickly took control of game 2 and never looked back winning the final 3.

Cedar Falls now moves on to regional semifinal action as they travel down I-380 Thursday to take on Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
