Donnisha Hill remembered through memorial

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Family and friends gathered Saturday at Waterloo's garden of memories cemetery to remember a Waterloo murder victim.

13 year old Donnisha Hill of Waterloo was kidnapped and beaten to death two years ago to keep her from testifying about alleged sexual abuse.  Her body was later found in Illinois.

Saturday morning, family members released 15 balloons in her memory.  13 white balloons for how many years she lived and 2 blue ones for the years since her death.

"I think I'm going to go home and try to keep from crying, but for today this is enough for me.  Just having everyone here just let's me know that everyone here has not forgotten about Donnisha and she wasn't just out situation and our problem.  She was our child," said Leneka Johnson, Donnisha's mother.

Johnson says family members are resting better since they have justice.   The man accused of killing Hill still awaits trial.
