FEMA to retest trailers

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) -- FEMA has agreed to retest Cedar Rapids mobile homes that were found to contain high levels of formaldehyde, but stands by its claim that residents' lifestyle and habits can influence formaldehyde levels.

In a letter to Gov. Chet Culver, FEMA director David Paulison says he sent members of his staff, a hygienist from the Department of Homeland Security and a member of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to Iowa to retest the mobile homes.

A Cedar Rapids television station found high formaldehyde levels in 20 mobile homes they tested

Culver spokesman Troy Price says he doesn't have a finite timeline for when the tests will happen, but says he fully expects FEMA to follow-through on its letter.
