U of I professor delivers petition concerning firing of Mills

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- Thursday University of Iowa professor Michael Lewis-Beck delivered a petition to President Sally Mason, that he says has 175 signatures.

The petition is calling for the reconsideration of the firing of former general counsel Marcus Mills.  Mills was fired in the wake of a report detailing mismanagement of the sexual abuse case involving former Hawkeye football players Abe Satterfield and Cedrick Everson.

University of Iowa President Sally Mason released this statement in response:

"I do not discuss the details of personnel decisions except with the persons affected. I understand that some faculty and staff were disappointed with my decision to terminate the employment of Vice President Jones and Vice President Mills, and I very much respect their thoughts and opinions. However, both individuals were at-will employees and it is my responsibility, and mine alone, to determine whether they should continue in their positions."
