Home invasion victim in ICU

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Waterloo Police officers were dispatched to 1711 Forest Avenue in Waterloo on a report of shooting.

The shooting happened around 2:00 a.m. Thursday morning.

During the course of the investigation the two victims told the officers that an unknown number of suspects broke into the residence and confronted them. 

According to law enforcement, the suspects, who had their faces covered, demanded undisclosed property from the residence. 

A struggle then ensued between one of the suspects and one of the victims and during this struggle the victim was shot in the arm. 

The suspects then left the house with the property and fled the area.

The gunshot victim has been identified as 47-year-old Richard Kenneth Smith Jr. 

Waterloo Fire Rescue Paramedics transported Smith to Covenant Medical Center.

Family members say he's in the intensive care unit suffering from multiple injuries.
Authorities say he's stable.
