Signing off one last time: Tribute to Grant Price

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Friends and family say farewell to newsman Grant Price.

Price was the Vice President of News and Public Affairs at KWWL from 1972 to 1989. From there he went to Waverly to teach broadcast journalism at Wartburg College and developed the broadcast TV program.

Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church in Waterloo Wednesday morning.

It was tribute, not to mourn his passing but celebrate the life of an amazing man.

"His contribution helped pave the way for today's journalists," said Emily Saveraid, Price's granddaughter.

Many say Grant Price did more for broadcast journalism during his lifetime than anyone else in eastern Iowa. Giving some of the most respected broadcasters their first chance in the business and teaching a new generation about what it means to be a journalist.

"He was instrumental in giving them their opportunity to prove they could do it," said former KWWL anchor Liz Mathis.

"He taught us how to just care about people. just an incredible man," said former KWWL reporter Eric Hanson.

As much as he was a journalist he was also a good man, helping others before he helped himself.

"All students learning from his example, not only in the classroom or the newsroom, but the way that he lived his life each and everyday. My grandpa was a great man," said Saveraid.
