North Liberty to start construction on new well

NORTH LIBERTY (KWWL) -- North Liberty will break ground for a new well necessary to improve municipal water service.

The well will be located between Sadler Drive and South Front Street north of Vandello Drive. The city plans to break ground within the next few weeks.

"This project will allow the city to improve the services we provide to our growing population. We are excited to be moving forward on this," said North Liberty City Administrator Ryan Heiar. "While there will be some disruptions in the area immediately surrounding the construction, we hope residents will bear with us as we make these necessary improvements."

The construction, which will be performed by Layne-Western Company, will affect the surrounding areas temporarily. Sections of the nearby recreation trail will be closed at times so water can be brought into and taken out of the site.

Muddy Creek will also be affected by the disposal but the city has worked with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to alleviate any possible environmental impact. The water may appear cloudy at times but will not harm the fish, plants or other aquatic life.

The city has put strict decibel limits on the sound in an effort to minimize noise impact on local residents. Construction may take place 24 hours a day, but if the noise limit is exceeded construction will be limited to 7 a.m. to 7p.m. There will be no construction on Sundays.
