Iowa man faces involuntary manslaughter charge

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) - A 23-year-old Carter Lake man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after turning himself in to authorities in connection with a weekend shooting.

Shane Hollenbach is charged in the Oct. 18 death of 20-year-old Steve Hurd, of Plattsmouth, Neb.

Authorities say Hollenbach was released on his own recognizance after being charged.

If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison.

Prosecutors say the charge means Hollenbach unintentionally caused a death while committing a public offense, but they didn't identify the public offense.

Authorities have said Hollenbach and Hurd were attending a party in Council Bluffs when the shooting happened.

Police arrested the party host, 24-year-old Mitchell Schard, on a charge of interference with official acts.
