Central Elkader Outlasts Wapsie Valley

The Wapsie Valley Warriors scored first but the Central Elkader Warriors scored last to win a thriller at home in overtime, 29-27. 

Wapsie scored on their second possession.  The Warriors Mike Rathe took a swing pass and converted a 4th and 5 to keep the drive alive.  Two plays later, Jacob Wenger plunged in from the 2 yard line to make it 7-0 Wapsie Valley. 

Elkader answered on the ensuing possession.  Jacob Sylvester hooked up with Keaton Juergens for a 36 yard pass to the Wapsie 15.  Zachary Tade finished the drive from the 2 but the extra point was blocked and Wapsie took a 7-6 lead into halftime. 

Elkader had a chance to put it away in the 4th quarter with a 14-7 lead and the ball inside the 5 yard line but the home Warriors waited to overtime to decide things, 29-27.
