Cedar Rapids received Jumpstart Checks

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Cedar Rapids residents received another wave of relief today as they continue to recover from this summers flood.

Governor Chet Culver was in Cedar Rapids handing out around $80 thousand in Jumpstart money for flood victims.

One couple receiving money was George and Pat Neal, who lost their home in the flood.

The Neals received $29 thousand  in forgivable loans to rebuild their home, which was nearly a total loss.  Mr. Neal says that there is still a lot to be done but it feels good to be finally getting this assistance.

Governor Culver says today's presentation is an indicator that the bulk of Iowa's flood relief is finally going to the people who need it most.

The other portion of Jumpstart money went to a local business owner.

The deadline to apply for Jumpstart money is October 31.

Applications for the money can be found by clicking here or by calling 1-866-849-0323.
