Former state worker files discrimination lawsuit

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Omitting on a job application that she had worked at a Hooters is what one former state worker claims got her fired.

Heather Kearney of Des Moines says she was fired from the Iowa Department of Public Safety in August 2007 for falsification of her job application.

Hooters is a chain restaurant known for the skimpy attire of its servers. Kearney says she didn't list her work there because it wasn't relevant for the Criminal Intelligence Analyst I position she was eventually hired for in March 2007.

The 30-year-old filed a lawsuit against the public safety department in September claiming gender discrimination. She says she had been doing fine at her job before she was fired, and that she was turned down for promotions that were given to men.

An attorney for the department denies any discrimination.
