West Central Knocks Off Central City to Stay in the Playoff Hunt

Posted:

MAYNARD (KWWL) -- Heading into Friday night's match-up in Maynard, Central City had already clinched a playoff berth but was looking to stay unbeaten while West Central was trying to separate themselves from a log-jam in the middle of the district standings.

Central City would turn the ball over with an interception on just the second play of the game and the Blue Devils took advantage a few minutes later on Kaleb Buhrow's two yard touchdown run.  A successful two-point conversion gave West Central an early 8-0 lead.

Central City would drive deep into Blue Devil territory on their next drive, but would come up short on fourth down and short to give the ball right back to West Central.  The Blue Devils would answer again, piecing together a seven and a half minute drive that culminated with another scoring run for Buhrow on fourth and goal.

Central City would come back though, scoring just a couple minutes into the second quarter on a 40 yard touchdown pass from Sean Brandhorst to Mason Nielsen out of a very odd formation.

A second Wildcat touchdown with just under three minutes to play in the first half would put Central City within a score at 16-12.

But West Central got a little more breathing room in the final minute of the half as Buhrow went in from nineteen yards out for his third score of the half, making it 24-12 after another successful two point conversion.

West Central would go on to win 54-48 to knock Central City from the ranks of the unbeaten.
