Solon shuts down Regina in battle of unbeatens, 27-0

SOLON (KWWL) -- Even the band couldn't slow down Solon.

The Spartans were penalized 5 yards on the opening kickoff of the 2nd half because the school's marching band played too long at halftime.  No problem.  Solon still cruised past previously unbeaten Iowa City Regina, 27-0.

James Morris got the Spartans on the board in the 1st with a 3-yard touchdown run on 4th-and-1.  The extra point was wide right, keeping the score, 6-0.

In the second, Regina moved the ball into Solon territory with the help of a 30-yard pass from Jack Verducci to Kevin Arnold.  But the Regals had a 48-yard field goal blocked and Solon took a 6-0 lead into halftime.

On the Spartans first possession of the second half, quarterback Matt Morrison scored on a 33-yard keeper to push the lead to 14-0.

Solon added two more touchdowns to complete the scoring.  The 27 points matches the lowest total for Solon this season, but the defending 2A state champs still had no trouble improving to 8-0.  With the loss, 3rd-ranked Regina falls to 7-1.
