Judge orders GPS monitoring in Agriprocessors case


CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - A federal judge has ordered electronic monitoring of 18 material witnesses in the case against two women who worked at in the Agriprocessors Inc. human resources department.

The orders requiring the GPS monitoring were entered Wednesday in federal court in Cedar Rapids.

Prosecutors say Laura Althouse of Postville, and Karina Freund, of Fayette, helped illegal workers at obtain and submit false documents to work at the kosher slaughterhouse.

Federal immigration agents raided the Agriprocessors plant on May 12, arresting 389 people.

A spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office says the material witnesses served prison sentences following the raid. No other details were immediately available.
