Man arrested for cheating at Iowa casino

RIVERSIDE (KWWL) - Iowa public safety officials say a Florida man has been arrested for cheating at the Riverside Casino and Golf Resort.

Officials say Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation agents on duty at the casino last Friday were alerted after casino staffed observed what appeared to be "suspicious activity."

Officials say DCI agents allegedly observed 25-year-old Jose Polanco-Osvaldo, of West Palm Beach, Fla., engaging in illegal gambling activity at the roulette table.

They say three other people appeared to be helping in the alleged cheating. The names of those people were not released pending the outcome of the investigation.

Officers learn what to look for to catch crooks in the act at a training facility in Des Moines.
It opened in April.
Until then, agents were sent to Las Vegas, New Jersey, or Missouri for training.

"Initially in 1989 we had twelve agents assigned to gaming, now we have well over 100 agents in casinos everyday. You can imagine trying to stay abreast of all the cheating techniques that are being used and to train them in a controlled environment," said Iowa DCI director Steve Bogle.
