Iowa's Hampton establishes self as great second option

Iowa City, Iowa -- Shonn Greene's done just about everything.  The junior Hawkeye running back has punished defenses this season, and is currently the only running back in the nation to rush for 100 yards in every one of the first 7 games.

"He's definitely a big guy out there and he really punishes guys out there, that's for sure," says fullback Brett Morse.

But this past week against Indiana another Iowa running back broke on to the scene as Jewel Hampton joined Greene and rushed for 114 yards of his own.

Center Rob Bruggeman says that's because Hampton is just that good of a back.  "That probably has a lot to do with him.  He's really a heck of a player.  He's got a good back in front of him in Shonn, and he probably hasn't had as many carries so you guys can see how good he is, but he's a good back."

What Jewel Hampton's coming out party against Indiana really did is add a second very potent option to the Iowa backfield, and Iowa Quarterback Ricky Stanzi says that's important because the second option always comes into play.

"The thing is you can only run so many times before you get tired, and to have Jewel come in and provide the way he did, definitely is going to help out our offense."

Both Shonn Greene and Jewel Hampton helped improve the Iowa red zone offense against the Hoosiers and the same needs to happen Saturday versus the Badgers.

"It's good to know that we can do that when we want, but this is completely different week," says offensive tackle Bryan Bulaga, "that happened, but we have to focus on this week."
