Students celebrate Hispanic culture

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- Tuesday students got a chance to expereince hispanic culture without leaving the country.

The Hispanic Latino Student Union held a culture festival at the University of Northern Iowa.    The festival was held in honor of Hispanic heritage month which runs September 15th to October 15th.

Activities included dance lessons, mask painting, and homemade traditional Spanish food.
The HLSU aims promoting diversity and exposing students to the Spanish culture.

"Most of us are not from here," said President of HLSU, Cecilia Ojeda.  "We are up here getting our education, and so getting to know people and being able to introduce them to a little bit of our culture, especially the eating and dancing, which is something that we enjoy doing.  It just means so much to us, and we are having a lot of fun doing it."

The UNI student diversity program hopes to hold a different culture fest every month through the school year.
