MUSCATINE - A jet ski accident that injured a Muscatine woman on Saturday is being investigated by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

Melissa Henderson, 37, was operating a jet ski when it struck the spillway at Lock and Dam 16 on the Mississippi River shortly before 6 p.m. on Saturday. She was taken to Unity Health Care in Muscatine where she is being treated for what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Henderson and a passenger on the jet ski, Leo Longhurst, 52, of Muscatine, were wearing life jackets at the time of the collision. They were pulled from the water by a nearby boater.

DNR Conservation Officer Tom Campbell reminds boaters that some structures such as spillway can be difficult to see at water level and it is important for operators to know where structures such as these are located.

The Muscatine County Sheriff's Department and the Muscatine Police Department responded to the call Saturday night. The incident is still under investigation by the DNR.
