Woman vows to push for Bible course in Waterloo

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) - A Waterloo woman and self-described Christian activist says she is disappointed but undeterred after seeing her petition to have the Bible taught in Waterloo Community Schools rejected.

Rochelle Arnold, a parent who operates Change the World Ministries, says she hopes to press her case with the Board of Education at some point in the future.

She says she's not surprised her petition with 576 signatures was intially turned down. She says it's discrimination and intolerant not to teach the Bible in school.

Waterloo school officials say they won't consider a course that focuses solely on the Bible. They say they may consider a course with a broader approach, including other religious texts, in the future.
