Wartburg defeats rival Coe 27-21

Cedar Rapids, Iowa -- Wartburg needed a great second half defensive effort to hold off Coe College Saturday afternoon.  The Knights quickly jumped out to a 17 - 0 lead, but the Kohawks rallied with 21 second quarter points.  In the second half, Wartburg limited the home side to 61 yards and no points. That effort, coupled with two Wartburg takeaways, helped keep Coe out of the end zone.  The win moves the Knights to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in Iowa Conference play.

The victory, Wartburg's fifth straight in the series, continued its winning streak in weeks following a loss to 18. Head coach Rick Willis' squad also remained firmly entrenched in the IIAC championship picture, moving into a three-way tie with Loras and Luther, just a game behind league-leading Buena Vista.

Wartburg and Loras, two of the three league teams tied for second, meet up Saturday, Oct. 18, in a 1:30 p.m. Homecoming 2008 kickoff at Walston-Hoover Stadium in Waverly.
