Marion Hands Union-La Porte City Its First Loss

Posted:

MARION (KWWL)-- For the second striaght week Union staged a come-from-behind effort to take a second half lead.

This time, however, they watched their opponent Marion respond for 21 unanswered points and a 43-23 win, handing the Knights their first loss of the year.

After coming back from an injury last week against Benton Community to lead a heroic game-winning drive, Union quarterback Garrett Woodson looked poised to do the same this week.  Early in the third quarter,  Woodson got in the endzone from a yard out for his second score on the night, giving the Knights a 23-22 lead and helping his team erase an early 12 point defecit.

But Marion had an answer.

Mitchell Osborn scored a one yard touchdown and added a two point conversion to put the Indians up 30-23.  Then, on the first play of Marion's next series, Osborn broke a 77 yard touchdown run, virtually ending any hope of a Union comeback.

Both teams now have just one loss on the season.
