DUBUQUE (KWWL) - The best thing about the game between Waterloo East and Dubuque senior tonight is that there would be a winner. Both East and Senior enter tonight's game winless -- a combined no wins and 12 losses.
It's hard to root for the underdog when both teams have been the underdog all season. But the good news is....in every game there's a winner. So who won tonight?
Its homecoming for the winless Rams; the victory bell is just waiting to be rung. We pick it up in the first. Seniors Calvin Hawthrone, hands off to Bobby Bean. He lobs it to CJ Brietbach. He takes it right into the end zone. Its 7-0 rams.
Then again this time Hawthorne with the pass to Dustin Fannon, he grabs it just in time. 14-0 at half.
Then in the third, after an 87 yard return for a td. Trojans trying for another. As quarterback Tevin Brown with the keeper. He takes it 15 yards.
Very next drive, Jeff Denlinger with the interception, he runs it back to the other end. Its 20-6 after the missed extra point.
And that's sound of the victory bell. Rams with the 20-6 victory over waterloo east.
First win of the season. Now next week they take on Cedar Rapids Washington. But for now they're celebrating their first win of the season.
